Spotlight: Southern Mississippi Urology

Today we are spotlighting our friends over at South Mississippi Urology.

They recently changed their name, but their state of the art diagnosis and treatment of urological conditions hasn’t changed!

They are led by Dr. Lyell and Dr. Spencer, Jr. and have an amazing team behind them.

Dr. Lyell began his private practice in urology in 1992. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville Medical School and performed his residency in urology at Oklahoma University. Dr. Lyell is certified by the American Board of Urology and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

He is also a member of the American Urological Association, American Association of Clinical Urologists, Mississippi State Medical Association, the American Medical Association and Singing River Medical Society. Dr. Lyell is also a very active member in the community by serving as the Board of Directors for the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Spencer, Jr. graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed his urology residency at the University of Mississippi.  He is certified by the American Board of Urology.   In addition to being a member of the American Urological Association, Dr. Spencer, Jr. is also a member of the Mississippi State Medical Association and the Singing River Medical Society.  He currently serves as the Chairmen of the Department of Surgical Subspecialties at Singing River Hospital and on the Medical Executive Committee.

They perform a lot of minimally invasive surgeries including da Vinci surgery. This system uses just a few small incisions and tiny instruments that can rotate farther than the human wrist to allow for greater precision, vision, dexterity, and control.
